Despite a pending court case challenging the producers for alleged plagiarism, 'Jannat 2' was released across theaters in India Friday May 4, 2012. With its name, one wondered if it was a sequel or a franchise film. Nonetheless, its producers, the Bhatts, deserve kudos for their bold venture, Kunal Deshmukh for his apt direction and a tremendous cast selection, and the actors for their stupendous performances. Even if Emraan Hashmi plays a brilliantly as protagonist opposite debutant Esha Gupta in two well crafted roles, it is clearly Randeep Hooda who steals the screen and the show as the missionary cop.

Shagufta Rafique deserves heaps of praise for a tight screenplay. And, a special word of mention for Sanjay Masoom whose acid language, lingo and abundant expletives echo as the real language of North India. A word of caution as some dialogues might be too much to handle if watching the movie together with a typical Indian family. The flick is about arms trafficking and has semblance of Nicolas Cage's 'Lord of War'.The Bhatts have called 'Jannat 2' a sequel to their 2008 release 'Jannat' that deals with a man's pursuit for heaven. 'Jannat' explored the dark side of the cricketing world, and 'Jannat 2' underlines arms trafficking. 'Jannat 2' exposes how guns reach the common man in India's capital. The movie might thus look inspired from the life of a Delhi University girl who was killed by a stalker in Capital.

The writer and the director have interwoven the plot with exciting romance. Debutant actor Esha Gupta proves her prowess in being bold without inhibition. Manish Chaudhuri of the 'Blood Money' fame performs very well, so also Brijendra Kala as Randeep's most trusted colleague. Sumit Nijhawan playing Sarfaraz is impressive. Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub as Emraan's trusted friend Balli is indeed innocent and charming; he is willing to die for his friend even if he's too scared of death. Pritam provides good music to appropriate songs. "Tujhe Sochta Hoon" and "Tera Deedar Hua" are pretty listenable. Chase scenes in the dargah and elsewhere are fascinating for which the credit goes to Bobby Singh's cinematography.

The movie plot in brief is that Sonu Dilli aka KKC (Kutti Kamini Cheez), played by Emraan Hashmi, is a smooth talking gun runner. He meets ACP Pratap Raghuvanshi played by Randeep Hooda, an eccentric cop determined to crack down gunners for one killed his wife. Hooda uses Sonu as informer to reach those involved in the arms trade. Here is a twist. Sonu falls in love with a young doctor Jhanvi played by Esha Gupta who works in a small government hospital that's always cash starved. She lives away from her father in search of peace and in pursuit of small dreams. Sonu lets Esha believe that he runs a shop called 'Kareena Cut Piss' (cut-piece). It's a coincidence that Esha's father is the real top arms manufacturer Mangal Singh Tomar played by Manish Choudhary, with whom Sonu has a huge deal.

'Jannat 2' is an excellent movie. You'll love it!
