India's Independence Day on August 15th, 2012, marked an important announcement by famed Bollywood director J P Dutta. He is going to make two sequels to the super-successful flick 'Border'. After 15 years, the film is still remembered for its patriotic theme and the legendary song 'Sandeshe Aate Hain'. Dutta confirms 'Border 2' and 'Border 3' but refuses to reveal more. Dutta's war films are dedicated to his late brother Deepak who was in the air force. He last directed 'Umrao Jaan' in 2006.

Dutta has been struggling for a while now to put together the two next war epics. In 2011, Dutta lost his father O P Dutta who wrote the films. JP has to find his way through the lives of the many characters. Each film is budgeted reportedly at around Rs. 65 crores. Dutta has been busy traveling to Delhi and meeting ministers and Defense officials for the last two years. To be shot in sensitive areas or war zones, he would require army equipment and the support of the Defense Ministry. He has finally solicited the support and permissions and shooting of 'Border 2' stars in the winter of 2012. The cast will include Suniel Shetty and Abhishek Bachchan. He may add Ranbir Kapoor this time.
