MEETHA TO HO JAYE, PAR PAPPU KO PAAS TO HONE DO!
By Pankaj Shukla
For the regular movie buffs there are two news this week. One is good news and other a bad one. First, let us see the bad one. Those who have loved Circuit in 'Munnabhai MBBS' will not find him doing comedy in his next. And, the good news is if you don't like Arshad Warsi going coochy coochy with 'Pardes' girl Mahima Chaudhary, options are enormous as four films are releasing this Friday ( today). Why has Arshad Warsi chosen to be a lead player than to continue with his successful sting as sidekick first in 'Munnabhai MBBS' and then in 'Hungama', is a matter of national debate?
But, the crux of the story is that he has put in lots of efforts to regain his lost stature to do lead role in Hindi films. One of these efforts is 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye'. This also sees debut of a new director Samar Khan who was last seen on the small screen as a journalist interviewing film stars . He is another mainstream journalist after Khalid Mohamed in recent years to turn director.
Shemaroo, the market leader in the Indian Home Video Entertainment for the 25 years, has also stepped into the world of film production with 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye'. Samar Khan has also roped in two new faces, namely, Shravan and Mahima Mehta for his debut venture. Shah Rukh Khan does a cameo in the film to pay tributes to his long lasting friendship with Samar Khan. 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye' is a novel conceptualization as most of the incidents in the story take place at an airport. However, this novelty can also distance masses because of the narration. There are still very few among Hindi film viewers who are familiar with airport ambience.
'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye' has more than one or two love pairs. Frankly speaking, the film does not move ahead on its cast; it moves on the incidents that take place at regular intervals. The drama unfolds with a feel of mystery and viewers get more and more inquisitive with the happenings on the screen. And, the ring for the duel or rather duels, love, romance, laughter and quarrel is the lobby of one airport where all characters assemble because of the delay in their flight. Besides, there is a smart airport manager (Arshad Warsi) whose love bird (Mahima Chaudhary) has bid adieu to him, and is on board with some one else.
But the destiny brings both under one roof, where love pervades all from teenagers to oldies. Every one is trying to figure out one's chemistry and also the reasons of going wrong in their relations. The concept may sound a lengthy and dragging one, but first time director Samar Khan has tried his best to turn it into a comic narration. 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye' may not fulfill all the criteria of a comedy film, but it's certainly a fun film.
'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye' is not a bad film for the first timer, but Samar Khan could have done better. He needs a pat on his back for his faith in himself . Vashu Bhagnani was the first producer to promise Samar a break as a director, but that was four or five years back. After that Vashu's films failed one after other. So, Samar Khan could not take off from Vashu's Puja Films. Anyway, Shemaroo Video has shown faith in him. Moreover, this film will fetch profit to its makers even by selling its DVD's and VCD's. Samar Khan has shown immense maturity in handing emotions on screen.
Welcome, Samar! The future is very bright provided you keep on getting good producers to have faith in you and a supportive cast like Arshad and Mahima. Samar Khan has also played smart by choosing some good people to be in his team, especially lyricist Sameer and music director Himesh Reshammiya. The music is soothing and melodious.
Among actors, Samar Khan has given Arshad Warsi a chance where he can do all that he wanted to do. Actually, it is a mutual benefit situation for Samar and Arshad Warsi to work in 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye'. There is a lot of sweetness in whatever Arshad does, and Mahima gives him a befitting company. Mahima has becomes more gorgeous in recent days. She has learnt a lot lately about how to ooze the oomph on screen.
The pairing is going to continue in their next film 'Sehar', and those who have seen rushes of that film vouch for the sizzle that she has created later as an economics teacher (Sushmita, Are you listening?). Other actors too have put in their best efforts to make the film look closer to life. 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye' may not be a runaway success. However, it will definitely be remembered as a good film of its genre.
