MADHURI TO PLAY OPPOSITE AMITABH IN YASH CHOPRA FILM
By Suhel Awar
Producer Yash Chopra's next film will be directed by the maverick filmmaker himself. His last directorial venture, 'Dil To Pagal Hai', was released in 1997, whereas the last film under his banner was directed by his son Aditya Chopra. The scripting of the film is in its final stages and the cast has already been finalized.

The film will make Madhuri Dixit realize her dream of starring in a film opposite Amitabh Bachchan, although she did feature in a song sequence with him in 'Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan'. But in this film she has been cast as the Big B's wife, while Yash's son, Uday, who made his debut in 'Mohabbatein', will play their son. Shahrukh Khan, who is a favorite of the Chopras, will be there in the film too. Kareena Kapoor will probably play his lady love, while another heroine opposite Uday Chopra is yet to be decided upon. Incidentally, Kareena has reportedly only given a verbal commitment, and her doing the film will depend on the status of her dates as and when the film is about to go on the floors.

Interestingly, the yet untitled film will mark the reunion of Amitabh Bachchan and Yash Chopra after exactly two decades. Their last film together was 'Silsila', which was released in 1981. Apart from 'Silsila', the combination of Amitabh and Yash made for movies like 'Deewar', 'Kabhi Kabhi', 'Trishul' and 'Kaala Pathar'. It is a fact that Yash Chopra films like 'Deewar', 'Kabhi Kabhi' and 'Trishul' played a major part in the evolution of the most popular Hindi film actor of all time.
Like his previous films, this one too will be a film on relationships, with romance as the backdrop. The only thing that Yash is undecided about at the moment is his choice of music director. His last film had Uttam Singh's music, but this time he is not sure whether he wants him. Rahul Sharma, who's scoring for 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge', a film that is being produced under his banner, besides Indipop composer-singer Sandesh Shandilya (who has composed two songs for Karan Johar's under production 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham') are in the reckoning for the music director's post.
Incidentally, 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge', being directed by music video director-turned- feature film maker, Kunal Kohli, is making brisk progress and it is only after the shooting of this film is over that Yash Chopra's film will go on the floors. Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji and Uday Chopra (in a special appearance) star in the film.
