Manipur's innovative stove wins appreciation

June 15, 2012

Manipur, June 15 (ANI): 35-year-old Maibam Nandakumar of Imphal West is all set to make a difference to the lives of the people of Manipur with his innovative cooking stove that uses rice husk as fuel, instead of gas or kerosene. He claims that his stove can function for 50 minutes using rice husk, which is usually seen as a waste product. Maibam has named the stove ‘Wai-nam’. Once the cooking is finished, removing the burnt rice husk is very easy. It is a cost effective alternative to the gas stove. During shutdowns, one LPG cylinder costs Rs 1300 in Manipur, causing a lot of hardship to the people.
