The forty-plus Bollywood actor Rahul Bose, who is known for art cinema, visited New Delhi recently to talk about his 'Shaurya' directed by Samar Khan of the 'Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaaye fame'. The movie with an army background is scheduled to release next week (April 4) throughout India. Among others in the cast who also accompanied him to the capital were Kay Kay Menon and Minissha Lamba. Rahul Bose admitted that he acted in Samar Khan's movie in spite of the latter's debut 'Kuchh Meeth Ho Jaaye' having flopped miserably at the box office. He has the guts to do a dance sequence even in the absence of the choreographer and feels satisfied with his performance. Besides, he wishes to venture into all genres of movies. When asked about the meaning of the title 'Shaurya', Rahul says that it's about following a certain set of principles and not deviating form them at any cost. In the movie Rahul plays the character of Siddharth Chaudhary, a rebellious, adventurous, immature, intelligent and reckless young army lawyer. KK Mennon says that 'Shaurya' means raising voice against wrong deeds when no one is ready to support you. He plays a brigadier known as Rudra Pratap Singh who has some personal values and has faith in those values only. Minissha Lamba, on the other hand, feels that 'Shaurya' means the presence of many positive characteristics within oneself. She plays the role of Kavya Shastri, who is a war reporter. She takes the risk of her life for collecting news from the war front. Rahul Bose who was upbeat about this movie and his forthcoming projects spoke to us frankly. Excerpts of the interview:

    What's the movie all about?

The movie is about a court martial in the army. A junior shoots his senior officer following an argument. But there is a secret that the junior doesn't reveal to the senior. Though it is about the army, the movie deals with two close friends who happen to be army officers.

What's your character in the movie?

I am a lawyer who is required to defend the accused. However, there is no way that he can prove the junior officer's innocence.

Haven't you performed a dance in the movie?

Yes, I have danced but without any choreographer as I drove him out. And, I have enjoyed it.

Aren't you known for art cinema?

Yes, that's my bread and butter.

Then, how did you then sign this movie?

I wanted to venture into this kind of movies, too. I hadn't played such a role in the past.

Didn't you know that samar khan's debut 'kuchh meetha ho jaaye' had failed at the box office?

Yes, I knew. He had failed to make it a success at that time. But, this time I found Samar quite confident to pull it off. Besides, there hasn't been a classic courtroom drama in the Hindi cinema for some quite time.

    What are your future projects?

First of all, there is Aparna Sen's 'The Japanese Wife'. Then, there are Santosh Sivan's 'Dastaan', Rajeev Virani's 'The Whisperers', Sanjay Chel's 'Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam', Suniel Shetty's 'Mumbai Chak Chak' and 'Before the Rains', a Hollywood film that will be screened in the UK and the US. I have already completed shooting for seven films and am sure to take the number to nine by November.
