After the stunning success of 'Kabul Fiza' score in his otherwise not so successful movie 'Kabul Express', director Kabir Khan has come out this time with a yet another typical romantic 'pyaar-mohabbat' score in his movie 'New York'. This is nothing unusual though as it has Pritam's music. Also, 'New York' is indeed an outright commercial movie unlike 'Kabul Express'. The film starring John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and sexy Katrina Kaif in the lead roles deals with a bunch of friends and terrorism. Though it is situational, yet interesting. It dwells on the lives of three friends leading a carefree life in the city of New York. The catastrophic terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11 is the ugly twist in the tale. As a result, the lives of the three friends turn topsy-turvy. Irrfan Khan steps in as a crime investigator. Unfortunately, their identities are based on their ethnicity during the investigation. So, all the three face an unfair yet harsh reality. The atmosphere around them is completely charged with suspicion and paranoia!

In this background, the album commences with a solo track 'Hai Junoon'. The track written by Sandeep Shrivastava is beautifully sung by K.K. The song is popular among youths, especially college goers. 'Hai Junoon' is about living life and being with friends. K.K has modulated his voice nicely! This is the best score of the album.

There is another solo 'Mera Sang' by Sunishi Chauhan. This is a situational track, say, meant for a college outing! 'Mera Sung' is about true friends being together. Both the tracks have Western instruments taking the Indian melody ahead. Both the songs also reappear in the remix versions.

Then comes Mohit Chauhan's 'Tune Jo Na Kaha'. This is a sad song by a failing lover. Now comes 'Aye Saaye Mere' a kind of Sufi number penned by Junaid Wasi and sung by Pankaj Awasthi. This song gives a different dimension to the album, which had until then followed a Western route. This comes nowhere near K.K's 'Hai Junoon'.

The next one is 'Sam's Theme' composed by Julis Packiam. Caralisa Monteiro has hummed it. This is a soothing but slow moving tune. This is followed by another theme track titled 'New York'. This is primarily instrumental. However, the theme looks like intriguing.

Overall, 'New York' proves a nice album though falling far short of expectations. 'Hai Junoon' is exceptionally brilliant track in the entire album.
