Titans clash at Box Office
By Eye TV India BureauIn the News
Box Office wars aren’t new in Bollywood. Titans have clashed in the best and affected business. However, wise producers / directors have always tried to avoid it, either through negotiations or influence. The tinsel town will soon face a situation like this. Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, who are working together for the first time, recently shot for a romantic sequence at Covent Garden in London for Yash Chopra's yet untitled directorial venture. Yash Raj Films will release it on coming Diwali. Thus, it will clash with Ajay Devgn’s ambitious ‘Son of Sardaar’. We learn that Yash Chopra has already booked more than half of the theatres for his SRK starrer. Being a SRK-Yashji combo, one can safely assume maximum shows will go to that film. Besides, Chopras have been dealing with the same theatre owners over the last 40 years. So, all of them would be more than happy to screen a Yash Chopra film that is coming after a gap of eight years. At the same time, Devgn considers Diwali as lucky for his films like ‘Golmaal Returns’, ‘All The Best’ and ‘Golmaal 3’. Devgn says that his ‘son of Sardar’ is a comic love story with lots of action. Hence, it fits the auspicious occasion of Diwali.
As said earlier, producer Ekta Kapoor is wise and more businesslike. So, she has unilaterally deferred the release of ‘Shootout at Wadala'. She has done it to avoid her film clash with Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’. 'Talaash', directed by Reema Kagti, and starring Aamir, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles, is releasing on November 30. It was earlier scheduled to release in January 2012 but was postponed till June, and then subsequently for November 30. Similarly, Sanjay Gupta's upcoming directorial venture 'Shootout at Wadala' was earlier scheduled to release on December 7, 2012. However, due to Aamir Khan's much-awaited film 'Talaash' getting postponed till November 30, the makers of 'Shootout at Wadala' have pushed the release of their film to 2013. 'Shootout at Wadala', is a sequel to the 2007 film 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', in which Sonu Sood plays the role of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, John Abraham of gangster Manya Surve, while Anil Kapoor plays ACP Isaque Bagwan. The film also stars Kangna Ranaut, Tusshar Kapoor and Ronit Roy.
