Vidya’s love affair with Kolkata
By Eye TV India BureauIn the News
National award winner Vidya Balan admits her love affair with Kolkata ever since her first Bengal film 'Bhalo Theko'. It was the reason why she took up the flick 'Kahaani' which turned into a sensation for her. Now, Kolkata is her favorite city, exclaims Vidya. She was conferred the 'Prabha Khaitan Purashkar 2012' by Calcutta Chamber of Commerce recently. Pradip Sarkar's 'Parineeta' and even the character of Manjalika in 'Bhul Bhulaiya' made her feel like a Bengali. She feels familiar, looks forward to her friends in Kolkata and even her family says the loyalty to Kolkata has probably something to do with past life. She talks of her admiration for Satyajit Ray and regards Rituparno Ghosh's films highly.
Vidya was very much thrilled when her father said that he didn’t find anything vulgar with his daughter’s acting in 'The Dirty Picture' and had predicted it to become the super hit film. She is also excited with her next project, Raj Kumar Gupta's 'Ghanchakkar' opposite Emraan Hashmi. Though she has won accolades for strong portrayals, Vidya is nervous about treading the genre of comedy with 'Ghanchakkar'. The film goes on the floors in August but she might already be feeling trepidations. Vidya, 34, told the media during her recent visit to Kolkata that 'Ghanchakkar' is a quirky film that narrates the tale of Emraan Hashmi, an ex-conman who is laid back and has a taste for finer things in life. She plays an ambitious Punjabi wife with her own notions of the world. Emraan gets sucked into a 'chakkar' with two 'thugs' (conmen) - one with an ailment and other with bad sense of humor. The utter confusion and chaos that follows brings in comical situations. Vidya is happy to work with her 'The Dirty Picture' co-star Emraan in ‘Ghanchakkar' , which is being produced by UTV and directed by Rajkumar Gupta of the 'Aamir' and 'No One Killed Jessica' fame.
